Ingredients

  • 1kg chicken (bone-in, cut into pieces)

  • 4 large tomatoes (chopped)

  • 8-10 green chilies (chopped)

  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 cup yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder

  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • Salt to taste

  • Few seeds of kalonji

  • 120ml cooking oil

  • 1 tsp kasuri methi dried

  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

  • Heat oil in a karahi (wok) over medium heat. Add chicken pieces and cook on high heat, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and add salt.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute until aromatic.
  • Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, kalonji and cook for 1 minute. Add chopped tomatoes, mix well and cook until the tomatoes soften.
  • Add cumin, coriander and red chili flakes then add yogurt, mix well, and cook uncovered for 10-15 minutes until the oil separates from the gravy. Stir occasionally.
  • Sprinkle black pepper and kasuri methi , mix, and let it cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Garnish with fresh green chillies and coriander.
  • Serve hot with naan or roti.
